A mysterious woodland, pony at sunset, watery landscape and teddy bear’s picnic are the prize winners in the New Forest National Park Authority’s spring photo competition.

The Seasonal Snaps photo contest attracted nearly 100 entries between 26 March and 9 April, with entrants ranging from professional photographers to smartphone-wielding amateurs.

Entrants submitted their spring photos of the New Forest on Twitter or Facebook and the winners were chosen by a public vote on the National Park Authority’s Facebook page, which attracted over 450 votes.

Each of the four winners will receive one of several prizes, kindly donated by local businesses:

First place went to Danielle Painting from Bournemouth for her photo 'Light between the trees' (below), which received 86 votes.

Danielle said: ‘I am delighted to have won the Seasonal Snaps competition, thank you to all who voted! It is always great to see how other photographers capture the New Forest; it is a place of constant inspiration and natural beauty. I cannot wait for the next Seasonal Snaps this summer to inspire even more great pictures of the National Park.’

In second place (below) was an atmospheric photo depicting a New Forest pony grazing at sunset. Lee Johnson's entry 'Horse at sunset' received 72 votes.

Barry Rickman, New Forest National Park Authority member, said: ‘Danielle’s photo conveys the tranquillity of the New Forest’s ancient woodlands and is a worthy winner of the photo contest.

‘I’m pleased that the competition has been so popular among local photographers and the standard of the entries is very impressive. I hope all four winners enjoy their prizes and I commend all the entrants for taking the time to celebrate the National Park with their photos.’
