Car-free travel campaign shortlisted for award

The New Forest National Park Authority’s work to promote car-free travel has been recognised after being nominated for a public relations award.

The National Park’s travel awareness campaign has been shortlisted in the PRmoment.com Golden Hedgehog Awards 2014 for the best Public Sector Campaign of the Year in the South.

The National Park will be judged against other shortlisted campaigns from the Royal Mint, National Blood Week, National Transplant Week, Bournemouth Tourism and Coventry University.

The National Park’s success in encouraging car-free travel included a record number of passengers on the open-top New Forest Tour, the launch of the popular Beach Bus and the New Forest Travel Concierge, who guided visitors to car-free experiences such as walking or cycling. Five inspiring videos have been produced and there was also great success with the first New Forest Walking Festival last autumn with all but two of the walks fully booked and 89% of walkers arriving by bus, rail, bike or on foot.

The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, 20 March, at Troxy in London.
