Switch Hampshire launches for businesses

Published Monday 14 October 2013

The Switch Hampshire scheme is helping small and medium local businesses in the New Forest find and switch to cheaper energy tariffs.

Backed by the New Forest National Park Authority and New Forest District Council, the scheme is free and registration is quick and easy via www.hants.gov.uk/switch

Once a business has registered online, an energy expert from the scheme will contact them and ask for some basic information, before searching for a better tariff.

If they choose to accept the new tariff, Switch Hampshire will help the business through the switching process and also provide post contract management to ensure everything goes smoothly. Businesses are under no obligation to switch and registration is open until 25 November 2013.

National figures suggest only 16 to 22 per cent of small or medium businesses switch supplier regularly, as comparing tariffs is difficult and the procedures needed to switch can be complex and time-consuming.

There are over 7,500 small and medium size businesses in the New Forest and Switch Hampshire aims to save them time and money by assisting them with the process of searching for a better deal.

New Forest National Park Authority and New Forest District Council are working with Hampshire County Council to encourage local businesses to register.

Leader of New Forest District Council and National Park Authority Member, Councillor Barry Rickman, welcomed the initiative. He said: 'I would encourage all small and medium business owners in the New Forest district to find out more about Switch Hampshire. Many have been deterred from switching energy providers as the process is often difficult – but the experts at Switch Hampshire are on hand to guide you through.

'The scheme offers local businesses the convenience and benefits of switching to a better energy tariff, which will help save them money during these difficult economic times.'
