Members of the New Forest Marque are celebrating after beating off stiff competition to be nominated in eight of the 11 categories at this year’s Hampshire Life Food and Drink Awards.

The awards – regarded as the Oscars of the local food and drink industry - celebrate the finest produce that Hampshire has to offer and give valuable recognition to producers, growers, suppliers and hospitality venues.

Jenna Bessant, New Forest Marque Project Officer, said: ‘We’re delighted that so many New Forest Marque members have been shortlisted for the Hampshire Life Food and Drink Awards and nominated in so many categories.

‘They thoroughly deserve the recognition and it shows how much interest there is in good quality local produce. Fingers crossed that they’ll win a number of awards on the night.’

Nomination forms were inserted into the April, May and June issues of the Hampshire Life magazine and online. Readers were invited to recommend their favourite food producers, suppliers, retailers, restaurateurs and hoteliers.

A panel of judges used set criteria to whittle down the 2,500 nominations to three finalists in each category.

Claire Lee, from Spice n Easy at Milford on Sea, said: ‘This is the first time I have been nominated for these awards and to be in the final three for the New Forest Marque Producers is fantastic. Huge thanks to everyone who supported my nomination.’

Jen Williams, from Naked Jam at Barton on Sea, added: ‘It's a privilege to be nominated and to be thought of in such a high regard by my customers. Thank you.’

The final judging stage will be conducted anonymously by an independent panel over the next month but winners will remain secret until the awards night itself at Four Seasons Hampshire on 22 August.
