As of Monday, 18 March, submissions are being accepted in the UK National Parks' annual photo competition, which will see the winner picking up his or her choice of outdoor/active footwear from Merrell. The theme of the 2013 competition is 'Actively Yours', emphasising the fact that Britain's breathing spaces belong to everybody.

Submissions will be accepted until 18:00 on 26 April 2013 and the winner announced on Friday, 24 May. Judges are expecting to see photos of people getting active in one of the 15 members of the National Park family. However, what is meant by the word 'active' is open to your interpretation.

Photos could feature wild swimming in Snowdonia National Park's Llyn Padarn, or the simple pleasure of a picnic atop Roseberry Topping in the North York Moors. Perhaps there's a shot of you hang gliding off Mam Tor in the Peak District, or of a friend skipping stones on the shores of Loch Lomond in Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park. The possibilities are endless.

"Free and open to all -- that is one of the guiding principals of the UK's National Parks family," said Carl Lis, chairman of the UK Association of National Park Authorities. "We're hoping with this year's competition to see people putting that into action: showing themselves, their families, their friends, etc., enjoying the surprising diversity of landscapes that are found in the UK's National Parks."

Again offering his keen eye in the judging this year will be all-round adventurer and TV presenter Ben Fogle, as well as a representative from outdoor footwear experts Merrell.

To enter the competition you must submit your photo online by visiting Submission dates run from 18 March 2013 to 26 April 2013. Pictures should feature an individual or individuals taking part in an activity within the bounds of one of the 15 members of the UK's National Parks family.

The competition is part of a series of events culminating in National Parks Week, which takes place in July/August. For more information, and full terms and conditions, visit:
