Unique picture of the Park

A complete picture of what makes Buckland a special area has been captured for the first time in a character appraisal.

A character appraisal acts as a guide when the National Park Authority is deciding if a planning application is in keeping with the area.

Paula Freeland, Head of Environmental Services for the New Forest National Park Authority, said: ‘This character appraisal identifies the special qualities of the area and highlights features of particular significance.  The Authority has a duty to ensure that the character of a Conservation Area is preserved or enhanced.

‘We hope the appraisal will make it clearer for everyone who lives or works or proposes development in this area why it was designated.’

The character appraisal can be viewed at www.newforestnpa.gov.uk/buckland_conservation and paper copies are available from the New Forest National Park headquarters.
