The new and improved New Forest Tour is back for the summer

Published Tuesday 13 May 2008

The New Forest Tour is back by popular demand with a new itinerary, special offers and a specially produced New Forest commentary, voiced by a former BBC radio presenter and producer.

The open top tour will start its summer journey on Saturday 24 May from Lyndhurst village car park and Beaulieu Village at 10:15am, with services departing hourly every day, until 17:15pm.

The circular route has something for everyone; whether you want to explore the shops in Lymington, Brockenhurst, Lyndhurst and Beaulieu or the visitor attractions of Exbury Gardens and Steam Railway and the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu.

The New Forest Tour is the perfect opportunity for visitors and local people to see England’s newest national park from a different perspective; taking in the magnificent views of heathland, forest, countryside and coastline.

It is also a great excuse to leave your car at home; reducing traffic and carbon emissions in the Forest. The New Forest Tour also joins up with other car-free initiatives and links to local rail networks and bus routes.

For bike-lovers, the tour bus has room onboard for up to four bikes in total, at no extra cost. The tour route has been designed to link to the Forestry Commission’s cycling and walking gravel track network.

Councillor Mel Kendal, Leader of New Forest District Council and Hampshire County Council’s Executive Member for Environment, said: ‘The Tour is a fantastic way to enjoy the beautiful New Forest National Park without adding to road congestion. The Forest has many rural and tranquil parts and anything that encourages visitors to help keep it that way is to be applauded.’

Chris Gregory, Transport and Tourism Officer, New Forest National Park Authority, said: ‘The introduction of a commentary on the New Forest Tour makes the experience complete. Now visitors can learn about the fascinating history of the National Park while taking in its breath-taking scenery.

‘The tour is the New Forest’s most high profile car-free visitor experience and reduces the number of cars on Forest roads at this busy time of year.’

On the Tour, passengers receive a guide book jam-packed with information about the Park, guided walks and cycle routes and a number of exclusive offers.

Tickets for the New Forest Tour can be purchased on the bus, from Visitor Information Centres at Lyndhurst and Lymington and online at www.thenewforesttour.info. Tickets cost £9 per adult and £4.50 for children aged between five and 15. Group tickets for five people travelling together cost £22.50. New Forest District residents eligible for concessionary travel can use the bus for free. The service will be operating throughout the summer until 31 August 2008.
