New post for planning team

Published Friday 15 February 2008

The New Forest National Park Authority has welcomed its newest member of staff into the fold.

Lucie Sneddon will be based in the planning enforcement team and will be the Authority’s Compliance Officer.

This new post has been designed to help the Authority monitor building work that has been granted planning permission for in the National Park.

One of Lucie’s main duties will be to make random visits to new developments to ensure they are being built in accordance to the plans the Authority has approved.

Steve Avery, Head of Development Control, said: ‘Lucie’s arrival will enable the Authority to take a much more pro-active role in monitoring new developments to make sure that developers adhere to their approved plans.

‘Whilst the vast majority of people comply with the terms of their planning permission, we recognise that public confidence in the planning system is quickly undermined if this process is ignored and we do not intervene.’

He continued: ‘Local builders and developers can expect to meet Lucie over the coming months when she visits their developments to check on their progress. In the meantime, if anyone suspects that a new development is not being carried out to the approved plans, then please contact Lucie on 01590 646642.’

Lucie will also be responsible for monitoring compliance of the section 106 legal agreements, to make sure that developers provide community benefits associated with new developments, such as affordable housing and providing public open spaces.

Copies of all recent planning permissions and approved plans within the National Park (dating back to September 2001) can be viewed on the Authority’s website
