New Member for New Forest National Park Authority

Councillor Alan Rice TD has been appointed as a Member of the New Forest National Park Authority.

Councillor Alan Rice TD has been appointed as a Member of the New Forest National Park Authority, to replace Councillor Ken Thornber CBE, who has resigned.

Councillor Rice was elected to both New Forest District Council (where he represents Bashley ward) and to Hampshire County Council (where he represents Milford, Hordle and Fernhill) in 1973, and is the longest serving member on both Councils. Councillor Rice has a long-standing interest in New Forest issues - he is a past member of the Verderers’ Court and as a commoner is one of the few with rights of ‘turbary’ – peat cutting).

Says Councillor Alan Rice of his appointment; ‘I am very honoured to be taking up this challenge and very much look forward to working in partnership with my fellow Members, Authority staff and organisations within the New Forest to help champion the New Forest National Park.’
