New Forest Tour – top figures from the top deck!

Published Tuesday 29 September 2009

The New Forest Tour has had its best year yet with over 15,600 people discovering the wonders of the National Park from the open top buses.

The sightseeing tour ran from 20 June to 13 September and although it was a shorter season than last year, picked up 1,500 more passengers.

With an improved commentary, discounts to attractions and stylish buses, the hop-on-hop-off tour proved a hit with visitors and locals alike.

Chris Gregory, the New Forest National Park Authority’s transport and tourism officer said: “Not only does the tour help people learn more about the New Forest, it also cuts down on car journeys which helps the environment.

'The tour also supports the local economy by boosting visitor figures at the attractions where the bus stops – Exbury Gardens alone had an extra 820 visitors this year thanks to the tour.'

The New Forest National Park Authority and New Forest District Council each invested £15,000 in the tour this year, with Hampshire County Council also contributing.
