New Forest gets a spring clean

Published Tuesday 23 March 2010

Top New Forest organisations and local volunteers have been working hard to give the Forest its fourth ‘Forest Force’ annual spring clean.

Thanks to their combined efforts the Forest is once again in tip-top condition. The Forestry Commission, New Forest District Council and the New Forest National Park Authority worked together to organise a series of litter picks from 6-14 March. These were managed by voluntary rangers and attended by local businesses, interest and community groups and individuals who wanted to make a difference.

Vicky Myers, Volunteer Co-ordinator for the Forestry Commission and organiser of Forest Force, said: ‘Once again Forest Force has proven to be a great success and we have been over-whelmed with the continued and increasing support from the local community.

‘I’d like to thank everyone who has given up their time to help clean up the Forest during this week - everyone’s combined efforts have ensured that the area is ‘spick and span’ and a nicer, safer place to enjoy.

‘I would also like to remind people that it’s important not to drop litter in the first place, please always use the bins provided or take your litter home with you.’

Some of the more interesting objects found this year included - a steering wheel and car speaker, a Post Office cash box and a plastic radiator grille from a car.
