Steve Avery has been promoted to Director of Strategy and Planning for the New Forest National Park Authority from his current role as Head of Development Control.

Steve takes over from Richard Lemon, who moves to a new role with Natural England, the Government’s countryside adviser, in mid-June.

Clive Chatters, Chairman of the National Park Authority, said: ‘We are very sorry to see Richard go.  He has done a great deal to move things forward on the National Park Plan in his time with the Authority.

‘I am pleased that Steve has agreed to accept the post of Director of Strategy and Planning.  His knowledge of the Authority’s work and the New Forest will ensure continuity and will enable us to maintain momentum on revising the National Park Plan.’

Steve Avery said: ‘I am well aware that this role brings with it significant challenges, but I am looking forward to working with the team to meet them.’

Richard Lemon said: ‘I am looking forward to my new role with Natural England and I wish Steve and the Authority every success in finalising the National Park Plan.’
