It’s show time again for the New Forest National Park Authority

Published Wednesday 18 July 2007

‘Know your National Park’ is the theme of this year’s New Forest National Park Authority stand at the New Forest Show from the 24-26 August.

Whether you are a long-standing New Forest resident or a first-time visitor, the National Park stand at this year’s show will put your local knowledge to the test and hopefully reveal something you didn’t know about England’s newest National Park.

The show stand will feature two major exhibits: a giant boundary map with life-size moveable landmarks and the world premiere of the first-ever New Forest National Park film called A Special Place.

Visitors will be given a series of clues to help them guess where the life-size cut-outs of well-known New Forest features, animals and plants should be placed on a four-metre by four-metre map of the National Park. Those who guess two or more landmarks correctly will win an exclusive National Park key-ring.

Meanwhile, in the cinema, visitors will see a new specially-commissioned film about the New Forest National Park. The eight-and-a-half minute film features stunning photography of the Park’s diverse landscape and touches on a number of its issues including animal safety, litter, climate change and the important balance between conservation and recreation.

There is also a supporting film about the rare ground-nesting birds found in the Forest, and to get cinema-goers in the mood, there will even be free popcorn.

Martin O’Neill, Director of Information and Visitor Services for the Authority, said: ‘Last year over 3,500 people visited our stand at the Show and we hope that even more will come to see us this year.

‘We are sure our film show and map quiz will provide a fun way for people to find out about the New Forest National Park - to understand and enjoy the things that make it special.’

Visitors to the stand will also be able to talk informally with National Park officers and members, pick up a range of leaflets and, for the first time, buy exclusive National Park merchandise including environmentally-friendly jute bags and umbrellas which hopefully won’t be needed!

Visit the New Forest National Park at stand 113, block 17.
