Many words and expressions that are particular to the New Forest still remain, with many in common usage. Some are remnants of a slower moving world, whereas others are new and very much part of a modern, thriving and developing cultural heritage.

The words listed here have been gathered both from written sources and through contributions by people living in the area. There are divided into three sections, local, gypsy words and commoning words.
