  • The Forestry Commission took over management of the woodland in the New Forest in 1923 and now looks after around 27,000 acres of Crown Land – about 47% of the National Park.
  • The New Forest breakfast was launched in 2005 as a showcase for local produce. It is available at many hotels, pubs and bed and breakfasts.
  • The Forestry Commission provides around 130 car parks in the New Forest.
  • The tallest tree in the New Forest is a Wellingtonia (giant sequoia) in the Rhinefield Ornamental Drive. It was planted in 1852 and it is 55m (178ft) tall.
  • The oldest tree in the New Forest is a common yew at Brockenhurst Church. It may be as much as 1,000 years old.
  • Tourism provides about 30 per cent of jobs in the New Forest and the industry is worth more than £70 million a year to the area.
