Coastal settlement

The New Forest coast has been lived in and called home by people for thousands of years!

Who were these early people? Where did they come from? And how did their lives develop into the thriving communities such as Lymington and Southampton we know today? The answers to these questions are considered in this activity pack.

The coastal settlement pack includes a detailed overview of the people, the place and the work that took place within the local area over hundreds of years and at different periods in time. The activity sheets consider the coastal area as a place to live, as well as the origin of our place names, allowing students to discover more about where they are growing up. A range of other hands-on activities and suggested field trips make this an interesting and stimulating subject to teach.archaeologists
