Tiptoe Green

The idea of a village green in Tiptoe started in 2008 when a 1.7 hectare field was put up for sale. Villagers made generous pledges of money for the project and the Tiptoe Green Trust was set up.

The project has progressed as follows:

  • New Forest National Park Authority approved the proposed change of use of the field from grazing to informal community amenity land in 2009
  • Funding came from the Tiptoe community, New Forest National Park Authority, the Big Lottery, Hampshire County Council, Hordle Parish Council, Sway Parish Council, Woodland Trust and Hampshire Playing Fields Association
  • The funding enabled the Trust to provide an all-weather accessible path, seating, new gates, a pedestrian bridge, fencing and a natural play area for children. It has also bought a tractor mower, huge quantities of seeds, over 6,000 bulbs and more than 1,000 shrubs and trees
  • The Green opened officially in April 2011 and a successful Diamond Jubilee Prom was held there in summer 2012.  Popular community activities include Easter egg hunts, junior nature studies and pre-school summer picnics
  • Volunteers of all ages have tackled a range of tasks such as hedge laying, digging and planting
  • Tiptoe Green is a great example of partnership working between the Trust and Hordle Parish Council, New Forest Land Advice Service and National Park Authority officers and rangers.
