Mosaic for young people

Our Mosaic project for young people aims to introduce 16 to 25 year olds to the National Park close to where they live. Once you’ve visited and tried out some of the activities on offer, you can choose to become a ‘Young Champion’.

Young Champions get involved in National Parks in a variety of ways, such as organising visits for other young people, advising the National Park Authority on its marketing products, or testing out YHA hostels to see if they are catering for young people.  We’ll provide a range of training opportunities based around your own interests. You’ll get experiences and skills which will help you towards employment.

We partner with the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Northumberland, Exmoor and New Forest National Parks and the YHA. National Parks are huge areas including countryside, coast, towns and villages. They are inspiring places containing extraordinary landscapes. There’s something for everyone – whether it’s sitting watching the waves come in, walking up mountains, cycling, coasteering, painting, conservation, building dry-stone walls, photography or camping out.

What does a young champion do?

You’ll get to know the National Park through taster days with other young champions and two residential weekends each year, organised by Mosaic and the National Park Authority.

You will receive training in areas that you are interested in. This should help you on your way to employment. Some training is accredited. Training might include outdoor first aid, a course in organising a visit, leading walks, food hygiene, public speaking amongst others.

Mosaic is tailored to what you want to do. Once you’ve seen what’s on offer, you can take it in whatever direction you want. We’ll provide you support to get to where you want to go.

Am I eligible to become a young champion?

Young Champions are 16 to 25 year olds who live within the National Park boundaries or in the towns around the edge of Exmoor, the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Northumberland and the New Forest. For a full list of locations contact us at
