Caring for the landscape

More than half of the National Park is designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), covering over 31,000 hectares and 17 sites.

There are 15 conservation areas wholly within the Park and three partly within it, covering more than 1,100 hectares.

Around 14,500 hectares is open forest, heathland, mire and grassland.
