Education in the New Forest

Getting permission

Even open access land requires permission for organised group visits, and it is essential that the landowner is advised of your intended visit.

Nearly half of the New Forest is managed by the Forestry Commission. They can check that your activity will

  • not clash with other school visits
  • not clash with other events or work (e.g. forestry works, toilet closures)
  • avoid sensitive wildlife sites
  • avoid unintentional damage to features of historic interest

Please contact the Forestry Commission Permissions Officer by telephoning 0300 067 4601, or email
