Historic parks and gardens

English Heritage compiles a register of parks and gardens that are of particular importance, to safeguard the particular features and qualities that make them important. Sites are graded I, II* and II. Those sites on the register in the National Park are:

No statutory controls follow from the inclusion of a site in English Heritage’s register but local planning authorities are required to protect registered parks and gardens in determining planning applications.

The effect of a proposed development on a registered park or garden or its setting is a material consideration in planning decisions.

There are 78 further sites on the Hampshire Register of gardens of historic interest.
