Mobile information unit

The Explorer is our distinctive mobile information unit. It is staffed by friendly and knowledgeable National Park rangers who answer questions about the New Forest and help people to understand more fully what a special place the National Park is.

The Explorer tours the Forest attending shows, events, visitor attractions and a number of car parks. It holds displays, leaflets and a variety of other useful information along with the ‘National Park treasure chest’, which is full of interesting artefacts such as antlers, deer skins and Roman pottery.

Volunteer rangers from the Forestry Commission often join the National Park rangers on the unit, providing information about the Crown lands and the work of the Commission.

We are always looking for new events/opportunities to further the work of the National Park Explorer. For more information or to invite the Explorer to an event you are holding, email us at or contact Lead Ranger Gillie Hayball on 01590 646682 /
