Horse riding is a wonderful way to see the New Forest, and to experience its landscapes, flora, fauna and changing seasons.

Horse riders have always enjoyed open access on the Crown Lands of the Forest, which is well furnished with suitable tracks.  Please keep on the gravel tracks to help minimise erosion to soils.

Horse riding is also permitted on public roads, byways open to all traffic, public bridleways, and dedicated horse riding routes.  Bridleways and byways are marked on OS maps.

A horse riding guide is available from the Forestry Commission.

For those who do not have a horse, check out information on riding stables at www.thenewforest.co.uk.

Please follow the New Forest horse-riding code and riding safety advice.
