Cycling

Cycling is a great way to discover the beauty and fascinating wildlife of the Forest. The National Park is an ideal place to leave the car at home, or at your accommodation, and enjoy the cycle-friendly flat ground! The National Park has many quiet country lanes, perfect for cycling, as well as over 100 miles of way-marked cycle tracks across the Crown Lands of the Forest, including many off-road routes.

Some cycle routes link with the railway station at Brockenhurst.  Bicycles can be hired at Brockenhurst, Lyndhurst, Beaulieu and Burley.  For details on traveling on public transport with a bike visit our getting around section.

You are welcome to cycle on public roads, byways open to all traffic, public bridleways, restricted bridleways, and dedicated cycle routes.  You are not permitted to ride over the Open Forest, or on Forestry Commission tracks which are not dedicated cycle routes. Cycling on public footpaths is also not permitted.

A guide to cycling on the Crown Lands of the New Forest is available from the Forestry Commission, as well as information on any routes which may be temporarily disrupted due to forest management activities.

There is information on cycling in the area on Hampshire County Council's countryside pages.
