Getting around
The New Forest offers great opportunities to be explored by foot or by cycle. Go to our 'What to do' pages to find out more. These activities can be combined with public transport to avoid the need for a car, and offer opportunities for linear routes.
Bus
The New Forest Tour Bus is operated by Bluestar, and supported by the National Park Authority and New Forest District Council. It is a great way to see the National Park; it can carry bicycles and links to some attractive circular routes. It also offers discounted entry to some attractions. It is an hourly service running from May to September, and takes in Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst, Lymington and Beaulieu.
Train
Short hops along the main line can take you to new areas of the National Park. Many trains also carry cycles. Check the South West Trains website for conditions.
The branch line between Brockenhurst and Lymington has been designated as a Community Rail Partnership, bringing together tourism and local economy interests as well as rail industry and local government partners.
Local stations: Ashurst, Beaulieu Road, Brockenhurst, Sway, Lymington Town and Lymington Pier.

Private vehicle
There are many car parks around the Forest, including over 130 on the Forestry Commission managed Crown Land. These offer opportunities to walk into the Forest. Remember that you can beat the traffic, and be kinder to the environment at the same time, by using alternative means to get around and explore the New Forest. Using public transport allows everyone to relax and enjoy the scenery.
By leaving your car behind on just two days of your holiday, you will be making a valuable contribution to the future well being of the New Forest National Park.
