A natural mosaic
The gently contoured mosaic of woodland, heathland, acid grassland, valley mires, farmland and coast give an unparalleled range of habitats for animals, plants and fungi. The New Forest is the last extensive area of English heath and wood pasture where large animal grazing has continued uninterrupted over large areas across the centuries. As a result, the Forest retains the most complete diversity of such habitats and landscapes probably anywhere in Europe.
The collection of photographs below show some of the flora and fauna that can be found in the New Forest National Park. Click on any of the images below to see a larger version of the picture.
