Planning Policy

The New Forest National Park Authority inherits the existing planning policies from the local planning authorities. Over the coming months, we will be going through a process of reviewing these policies and, where necessary, modifying and developing our own specific policies. As this work progresses, we will update the information on this page to keep you informed.

Proposed airspace development affecting the New Forest National Park

The National Air Traffic Services (NATS) has proposed changes to the airspace structure affecting parts of the New Forest National Park. The main proposal involves an additional area of controlled airspace over parts of the National Park. This would allow flights in to and out of Bournemouth and Southampton Airports to use a wider air corridor at levels down to 5,500 feet.

The consultation on the proposed changes closed on 10 August 2007. The following link contains the main consultation material: www.nats.co.uk/text/121/terminal_control_south_west.html

The National Park Authority has formally responded to the proposals following liaison with local parish councils, the New Forest Association, the Forestry Commission, the Council for National Parks and New Forest District Council. The Authority’s pdf consultation response (3.2 MB) can be viewed by clicking the link.
