What is the scheme?

2.1  The scheme has been published in accordance with the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.  The purpose of the Act is to promote openness by public authorities (i.e. government and other public sector organisations).  The Act gives a general right of access to all types of recorded information held by public authorities.  The public's general right of access to information under the Act came into force in January 2005.  The Authority is committed to conducting its affairs openly and information held by the Authority is generally available for public inspection.

2.2  The scheme is a guide to the information routinely published by the Authority.  It is not a comprehensive list of documents but rather it is a description of the classes or types of information published.  The classes of information can be accessed by clicking on the link.

2.3  The Authority has produced a guidance leaflet which provides more information on the scheme

2.4  We also operate an appeals procedure in the event that the Authority decides to apply one of the exemptions permitted under the Act in not releasing the information you requested.  Should you wish to find out more about this procedure please click on the link below.
