Sustainable Development Fund project wins top web award
A project sponsored by the New Forest National Park's Sustainable Development Fund has won a prestigious web award.
At the awards ceremony for the 7th Hantsweb Award on 23 Feb the New Forest Food Challenge won the title of 'Best Healthy Lifestyle Website'.
Up against around 80 other nominated sites the Food Challenge was picked out as being top for layout, accessibility and making the most of current internet technology such as RSS and Twitter.
The site is a community forum and thanks go to all who have contributed to it:www.newforesttransition.org
Claire Gingell, the National Park's Sustainable Development Officer, said: "This project aims to encourage people to increase the proportion of local produce they use and to increase the amount of food grown locally in gardens, allotments and market gardens. Not only does the project encourage people to support local food producers and adopt healthy lifestyles, it also helps the environment by reducing 'food miles'. We're delighted that the success of the Food Challenge has been recognised."

Proposed shingle recycling at Hurst Spit
In accordance with the Hurst Spit Beach Management Plan, New Forest District Council is proposing to undertake the next stages of shingle recycling at Hurst Spit.
The works will involve using land-based excavators to remove a volume of material from the tip of the shingle recurve at North Point (located approximately 1 km northwest of Hurst Castle). The material will be loaded onto dumper trucks and transported along the Spit to the recharge site and deposited as required. An aerial photograph indicating the areas of work is here

Although the actual works have yet to be scheduled, it is anticipated that they will be undertaken during February / March 2010 and will continue for approximately three weeks (subject to suitable tidal and weather conditions). Every effort will be made to minimise disturbance and inconvenience to users of the area during the works.
