Bluetongue Disease
A case of blue tongue has been discovered in the New Forest district. The area has been included in the blue tongue protection zone for some time but this is the first case to be discovered in the New Forest.
The main impact will be on farmers and commoners in terms of controls affecting the movement of stock.
The protection zone around the New Forest has been extended to Wiltshire and further into Hampshire. All the evidence suggests that the animals were infected last year and the disease was found during routine pre-movement testing.
There are no implications for public access to the area or wildlife control.
