Climate change

Climate change is probably the biggest environmental challenge facing the New Forest National Park.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change - the leading worldwide body for assessing climate change – says there is no doubt our world is getting warmer.

There is evidence of:

  • increasing global average air and ocean temperatures
  • widespread melting of snow and ice
  • rising global average sea levels.

Major changes to the character of the Forest are likely. If ignored, climate change will affect the well-being of each and every one of us.

This is why the National Park Authority and others are acting now to adapt to these likely changes and to reduce our contribution to the problem.
