- 22,300 hectares that is tree-covered (less than half the National Park)
- Just over 25,800 hectares of the National Park is Crown land managed by the Forestry Commission (47 per cent of the total area)
- 27,000 hectares is accessible to the public for quiet recreation, 16,500 acres ‘access land’ as defined by the Countryside and Rights of Way Act
