Alan Rice

Alan was elected to both New Forest District Council (representing Bashley ward) and to Hampshire County Council (representing Milford, Hordle and Fernhill) in 1973, and is the longest serving member on both Councils.  He has a long-standing interest in New Forest issues, being a past member of the Verderers’ Court, the New Forest Consultative Panel and as a commoner is one of the few with rights of ‘turbary’ (peat cutting).  He is Vice Chairman of Hampshire County Council’s Recreation Heritage Policy Review Committee and is also on the River Hamble Harbour Management Committee.  He is on the New Forest District Council’s Planning Development Control Committee and is also a representative on the Hampshire Archives Trust, Hampshire Buildings Preservation Trust and Solent Forum.  In addition, Alan is a Councillor on New Milton Town Council.  He is a past Chairman of Chichester Harbour Conservancy and currently Chairman of the Hampshire Playing Fields Association.
