National Parks – diamonds in the landscape

In 2009 the New Forest National Park marked the 60 anniversary of the Act of Parliament that created them – the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949.

The New Forest National Park is the second newest member of the National Park family.  It was created on 1 March 2005 and the New Forest National Park Authority took up its full powers on 1 April 2006.

Even though it has a short history compared with most of its sister Parks, the New Forest National Park does not intend to be left out of the celebrations.  In this section you will find some 60-themed pages: 60 things you didn’t know about the New Forest National Park; 60 years in the New Forest; 60 iconic images of the Forest; and 60 achievements of the New Forest National Park Authority (which is not bad for a three-year-old).

As the strapline for the year of celebration says: National Parks are diamonds in the landscape.
