A finds identifications day

Date: 23 August 2014

Location: New Forest Centre, Lyndhurst

Time: 10:00 - 16:00

Cost: FREE

The Finds Identification Day runs between 10am and 4pm on 23 August and is a drop in event with no booking required.

If you have objects excavated from your garden or found during building work, or when walking across fields or from metal detecting a panel of archaeologists will be available on the day, happy to try and identify objects and provide information about them..

This year’s finds identification day particularly wants to focus on items and finds that people have or have inherited from the First World War that relate to the New Forest. Historic photographs, documents and objects all have their place in telling us about the period.

The finds identification day will include a series of talks by professional archaeologists. Alex Langland will give a talk on the making of the BBC2 wartime farm and other talks will include Anglo-Saxon artwork and finds. Another topic will be organic finds such as the botanical material from the wreck of the Mary Rose.
