Exhibition: From the Charter of the Forest to the present day

A special exhibition for all ages exploring the Forest's link to the Charter of the Forest and the new Charter for Trees.

On Monday 6 November 2017 it is the 800th anniversary of the historic Charter of the Forest, which established rights of access and use for the Royal Forests in England. The date also marks the launch of a new Charter for Trees, Woods and People.

This fun and family friendly exhibition will explore the Charter of the Forest, what is was and how it still resonates today.

This exhibition is part of the Heritage Lottery funded Our Past, Our Future Landscape Partnership Scheme.

Beginner's woodland management course

A beginner's basic introduction to managing woods.

When you are first confronted with a woodland, what do you do?

This one day course is designed for those who have bought, or are thinking of buying a woodland area, but it is also useful for anyone wishing to understand more about the methods and approaches needed to manage woodlands.

No previous experience needed.

The course will take place in Bashley woods, a 20 acre ancient, semi-natural woodland.

Please wear sensible footwear and warm clothing.

Bring a camera, notebook and pen.

Bonfire Night Campfire

Location: Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Centre

Stories, games and songs around our Campfire. Enjoy hot chocolate, sparklers and toast marshmallows.

Wrap up warm and spend the evening by our bonfire where our Guy Fawkes guides will keep you entertained with stories, songs, games and challenges. Enjoy a hot chocolate, toast marshmallows and wave your sparklers – this is a great family event for younger ones.

Hot food, drinks and snacks will be available to purchase on the night.

Please Note: there will be no fireworks at this event.

Turn your garden waste into valuable compost with Rosie Yeomans by using the right ingredients and understanding how the heap works. We will review several types of compost systems including hot composting, wormeries and how to make perfect leaf mould.

Rosie will be well known from her work with Radio 4 Gardeners Question Time, contribution to BBC Gardeners World Magazine and appearances on Radio Solent ‘Good Life’.
