Digital wildlife photography basics 2

Improve your camera skills to create beautiful wildlife photographs.


Bring your own camera, whether it is a digital SLR, bridge or compact camera and learn how to use the functions and settings you will need to improve your photography.

Your tutor John Combes is an experienced wildlife photographer and lecturer will teach you about the equipment and techniques used by nature photographers from the basics up including:

  • Depth of Field
  • White balance
  • Noise
  • Processing
  • Composition

After the indoor session you will get a chance to practise what you have learned by taking photographs round our Blashford Lakes reserve near Ringwood and take part in an informal and constructive review of the images in an indoor session at the end of the day. Bushcraft Introduction Weekend

Spend a fun weekend immersed in the world of bushcraft and learn survival techniques on our weekend bushcraft course

On this two day, one night course you will learn and practice:

  • Fire lighting techniques
  • Erecting natural and manmade shelters
  • Cordage and pot hanger making
  • Meat preparation and outdoor cooking 
  • Knife safety and sharpening 
  • Edible and medicinal plant ID.

We will provide an array of shelters for you to sleep in – some natural which we will make together and some manmade.

If you would like to bring your own shelter/tent then please feel free to do so and you will have time to put it up throughout the day.

Chef's Night

Easter Egg Fun at the Farm

Join in with two brilliant fun, family-friendly Easter egg trails where you’ll be on the look-out for nests and golden eggs!

What better place to celebrate Easter than at the farm – surrounded by chicks and bunnies?

Join in with the fabulous Longdown Easter trail which is suitable for the whole family. Search for the clutches of eggs in their special nests hidden around the Farm. Children will receive a little yummy chocolatey treat at the end of the trail.

Also, for older children and adults – keep a look out for the very special golden eggs – ten will be hidden around the Farm at the beginning of each day. They are very hard to find, so an ‘eggstra’ special chocolate gift will be given to those who are fortunate enough to find one! Easter Sunday only (1st April 2018).

Every child who arrives at the Farm in their own Easter Bonnet, will be allowed entry at a concessionary rate of £5.00 each. (Cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer. Child concession tickets cannot be bought online.) Our usual schedule of hands-on activities will run throughout the day. No extra charge to join in with the trails.

Canoe Easter Egg Hunt

Enjoy a fun filled paddle along the Beaulieu River in our stable 'Canadian style' canoes.


Spend time taking in the stunning scenery of the river before disembarking for an Easter egg hunt with a twist! Leave no leaf unturned as your little ones hunt for those hidden chocolate eggs! Then, depending on tides we'll either paddle or enjoy a beautiful scenic riverside walk back to base.
