Time: 10:00 - 14:30

Make your own frame basket to take home using materials gathered on the beautiful Blashford Lakes Nature Reserve.

Basket making is an ancient craft. On week one you will harvest the willow before learning how to create the framework of your basket using two hoops, binding them together using a God’s eye weave and adding in the ribs. On week two you will be able to gather more willow along with additional suitable natural materials including ivy, larch and broom enabling you to complete your frame basket and leave with a finished piece.

The cost of all the materials and use of the tools to make a basket is included in the price. This course is designed for beginners and improvers in basket making and is an ideal course for anyone wanting to learn a new craft using natural materials.

It takes place on Monday 19 and 26 February from 10am to 2.30pm. Please arrive 10 minutes before the start of the course Blashford Lakes is in the New Forest, situated to the north of Ringwood, download our directions leaflet for instructions on how to find us.

It is essential to wear suitable clothing and footwear for the weather on both days – please note our osier bed is uneven under foot so sturdy boots are recommended. Wear old clothes whilst weaving as willow work can be messy. Please bring your own packed lunch. Please bring secateurs if you have them, but this is not essential as these can be borrowed on the day. Hot drinks will be provided on the indoor session.
