Forest School Taster Day – Testwood Lakes

This course is a fully immersive experience that will give you a clear understanding of what Forest School is all about and whether certified Forest School training is right for you.


A half day introduction to the Forest School approach. You will be introduced to the ethos and benefits of Forest School as well as getting hands on experience with typical activities.

This course is a fully immersive experience that will give you a clear understanding of what Forest School is all about and whether certified Forest School training is right for you. We will look at the approach to risk management that is an integral part of the process, for both leaders and children. Our Forest School Experience aims to inspire you to follow your interests and consider how the approach could relate to your setting.

Is this course for me? This course is ideal for pre-school leaders, teachers or any individual interested in finding out more about Forest School, especially if considering doing certified training. If you are interested in specific skills or about how to better utilise your grounds for outdoor learning please get in touch with us.

Please arrive 10 minutes before the course is due to start Testwood Lakes, Totton near Southampton. Meet at the Testwood Lakes Education Centre, free parking is available on site. Bring appropriate outdoor clothing for the weather on the day, sturdy, comfortable footwear (walking boots or wellies). Hot drinks and biscuits will be provided.

Tutor Grace Brennan – Education Officer Testwood Lakes. Grace is a Forest School Leader of five years, and environmental educator of 13 years, working with groups of a range of ages, backgrounds and abilities. She is a full time Education Officer based at Testwood Lakes Nature Reserve, which is managed by the Hampshire IOW Wildlife Trust. Booking is essential, you can book through our website.

Canoe Easter Egg Hunt

Enjoy a fun filled paddle along the Beaulieu River in our stable 'Canadian style' canoes.


Spend time taking in the stunning scenery of the river before disembarking for an Easter egg hunt with a twist! Leave no leaf unturned as your little ones hunt for those hidden chocolate eggs! Then, depending on tides we'll either paddle or enjoy a beautiful scenic riverside walk back to base.

Holiday Adventure Day

Looking for things for the kids to do during the school holidays? Drop them off for a full day of adventure in The New Forest!


Based in the heart of the Beaulieu Estate at our woodland activity site, your children will get the opportunity to learn new skills and make new friends all under the supervision of our experienced activity instructors. The group will begin the day learning bushcraft skills such as foraging and shelter building, before testing their aim with a bow at our Archery range. After refuelling for Lunch, we'll spend an afternoon swinging from the trees on our ropes course.

Our Holiday Adventure Days make the perfect school holiday activity for children aged 8-14 years. For 1-3 children get in touch to register your interest in a date. Wildplay day at the beach

Cost: £1 suggested donation per child.

Join us to discover fun ways to explore, play and get creative in the outdoors.

Come and try crabbing, beach art, seashore scavenging and much more. ‘Swap some screen time for wild time out in the New Forest.’ Wear some old, warm clothes. Wellies recommended!

Continue the fun and run wild at Hurst Castle – walk along the spit or catch the ferry from Keyhaven. Fun for all the family, open today until 5.30pm with Easter arts, crafts and egg hunt. Pick up a copy of the Wild Play Day map available on the day to gain free child entry to the castle (maximum three children with every full paying adult, valid Wednesday 11 April 2018 only).
