Consultation on the Western Escarpment
Conservation Area Action Plan draft
This consultation ran formally from Monday 9 January– Wednesday 29 February 2012.
The Western Escarpment Conservation Area covers parts of the parishes of Hale, Woodgreen, Godshill, Hyde and parts of Ellingham, Harbridge and Ibsley, Fordingbridge and Ringwood. The conservation area was designated in March 2008 because it includes typical Forest landscape as well as a number of buildings of architectural and historic interest.
The story so far:
- Local people were involved in the designation process – February 2008.
- A Character Appraisal – (defining what makes the area special) was prepared.
- The National Park Authority designated the conservation area in March 2008.
- A Steering Group (consisting of representatives from local parish and town councils) was set up to produce a draft action plan.
- Exhibitions were held in the area in September 2010 inviting local people and visitors to tell us what you value about the area and let us know of any concerns.
- A draft action plan was then prepared by the Steering Group based on the findings.
The main functions of the Action Plan are to guide and co-ordinate the work of all those with an interest in the conservation area to ensure that its character is preserved or enhanced and to identify projects and actions which will also help to do this. It focuses attention on maintaining the conservation area as a special, distinctive place. Please send us your views.
