One consultation, three plans

Your views will influence three major plans for the New Forest. Each of the plans is important for anyone who lives or works in the New Forest and to some extent for those who visit too.

Each plan has a different purpose, but there is considerable overlap of the issues they will be addressing and the actions they will seek to deliver. Their main purposes are given below. Details of the scope of each plan, its timetable for preparation and the period to be covered are given in Appendix 4 (20 KB) of the Issues Paper.

The New Forest District Community Strategy

This strategy aims to improve the quality of life for present and future generations in the New Forest District by improving economic, social and environmental well-being. The New Forest Local Strategic Partnership oversees its preparation. A draft of the Community Strategy will be published for consultation in Spring 2007.

The New Forest National Park Management Plan

This plan shows how national park purposes will be achieved in the New Forest, both by the National Park Authority and others. The purposes are: to conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the Park; and to promote understanding and enjoyment of the Park's special qualities. The National Park Authority also has a duty to foster the social and economic well-being of local communities as part of its work in delivering the two purposes. A draft of the Management Plan will be published for consultation in Autumn 2007.

The Local Development Framework – Core Strategy Development Plan Document

The 'framework' is a group of documents rather than a single plan. The so-called 'Core Strategy' Development Plan Document is the major local planning guide for the New Forest. It is the spatial expression of the Community Strategy and National Park Management Plan. This will be a joint plan for New Forest District Council and the New Forest National Park Authority, although some policies will be different inside and outside the National Park. Preferred options will be published for consultation in Summer 2007
